About our company
North Shore Kayak Outdoor Center (NSKOC) was founded in the late ’90s as a kayak, bike, tour, and rental company. NSKOC has helped close to 100,000 people or more experience a closer look at what makes Cape Ann so special, our OCEAN and the LAND around us.
The original founder recently closed NSKOC and has passed the torch onto new owners and operators Clay and Jen Kern who are rebirthing it as North Shore Adventures LLC, DBA North Shore Adventures & Outdoor Center. They hope to continue the core mission of the shop while changing things up and expanding into new offerings going into the future.
Our Staff
Many of our staff have been working/living around the ocean for most of their lives and are intimately connected to the Ocean around us. They receive many hours of training on the water with techniques such as the T-Rescue, and advanced paddling techniques they can teach you during our tours. All our staff are CPR/First aid certified and trained in the use of rescue equipment. In addition to the many things they can teach you about the local history, biology, local landmarks etc.
Clay Kern-Owner, Guide, and all-around adventurer
Clay brings more than 20 years of teaching, paddling, guiding, and adventuring experience from across the country from Pennsylvania, California, Maine, and even Louisiana to the small but beautiful Cape Ann/North Shore region. He has worked for the Catalina Island Marine Institute, Discovery Adventures, Kestrel Educational Adventures, and several schools over the years, and holds his Masters in Marine and Environmental Science.
